The Project
The intent of my project is to begin a conversation about Copyright and InterLibrary Loan (ILL). To achieve this goal, I created a survey that was distributed to a small listserv of medical librarians in the Central Arizona area. If a conversation can begin at the local level, my hope is that it will grow until it's at the national level.
My interest in this topic stems from a MEDLIB-L discussion of ILLs and Electronic Delivery started by Laura Hickerson. Her question and the summary of responses she received made me realize that ILLs and electronic sharing of files is a hazy road to navigate.
Few people see eye-to-eye when it comes to copyright issues. Some believe that electronic sharing is illegal and some believe it's completely acceptable under CONTU guidelines. By putting everyone's opinions out on the table, I hope that we can eventually come to a consensus on the issue of ILL and electronic sharing.
In the next few pages, I will share with you the basic issues surrounding the topic and the results of my (informal) survey.
